Bo Barrett — Chateau Montelena Winery

Bo serves as CEO of Chateau Montelena Winery, having been involved in every vintage at the winery since his family assumed ownership in 1972. Starting as a harvest/ cellar worker in college, Bo worked his way up to winemaker in 1982, and was subsequently appointed to Chief Executive Officer in 2013. He credits his father, and winery founder, Jim Barrett for his work ethic and unrelenting persistence. “When my father started this winery, his goal was to take the incredible fruit from this historic piece of land and make the best wine we possibly can.”

Today, Chateau Montelena Winery is most widely known for their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery’s flagship wine with incredible aging potential that has been in production since 1978. The winery is also widely acclaimed for their victory at the Judgment of Paris where the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was the top-rated white wine.

Bo continues to honor his father’s mission by creating wines that transcend ratings or trends, and remain true to the origins of Montelena. This foundational philosophy extends to the team of employees he has built. “We hire the very best people we can, communicate our expectations, and give them the freedom to do their jobs well.” Bo continues to propel Montelena forward with the same commitment to excellence it was founded upon.
