Romantic Danube River Cruise, November 9-16, 2018 with Muscardini Cellars

Michael Muscardini

Michael Muscardini is a maverick whose award winning wines capture his passion for winemaking.

Michael’s grandfather Emilio Alchero started making wine in 1892 back in Italy.  Coming to America in 1909 via Ellis Island, Emilio joined his two brothers on the West Coast.  Saving money, he bought corner grocery stores selling bulk wines and making his own red table wine.  He later founded the St. Helena Napa Valley Wine Company.

Grandson Michael graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts with a fine arts degree.  He started a family and built a successful construction company, selling Creative Spaces after 27 successful years in business.  In 1999 he entered the world of winemaking, buying land in Sonoma and planting Sangiovese vines. Within 5 years, these vines produced a “Tesoro” (translation-Treasure) that would win Best in Class gold medals at the Los Angeles International Wine Competition, over 3,169 entries from 16 countries.  The Muscardini Cellars 2008 Sonoma Valley Sangiovese was judged Best Limited Production Red Wine.  The following year, his Pauli Ranch Sangiovese was awarded double gold by the California State Fair. This marvelous vintage garnered 98 points and Muscardini Cellars lauded as Best Micro Winery in California.  No small achievement for this winemaker!

Today, Muscardini Cellars is housed in a spacious tasting room with patio facing the Mayacamas Mountains. This delightful setting sits inside an historical building with a prominent Sonoma Highway location.  Frequent and fun-filled wine club events echo with the sounds of laughter.  The motto “Bottled with love for the joy of living” is found on every label produced by Muscardini Cellars.

Join Michael on a special Danube river cruise and wine tour, visiting some of the most historic and charming villages and cities in Bavaria, Austria, and Hungary.  During 3 on board tastings and a paired dinner Michael will explain the nuances of European winemaking in contrast with his own New World approach.
