Susanne Sapier has always had a passion for good wine and great fun. In 2008, Susanne purchased a property in the inland San Diego County town of Ramona, CA to start a vineyard. Just three weeks later, the first vines were planted. While waiting for the vines to mature, Susanne made wine and crafted blends using fruit sourced from other California vineyards. By 2011, sufficient quantities of her own estate-grown grapes were ready to make the first year’s production of Vineyard Grant James wines. Named after her son Grant and father James, this family owned winery is rapidly growing by reputation and word-of-mouth. A tasting room was opened in 2013, which has become extremely popular. Susanne takes great pride in seeing how much people enjoy her wines and the atmosphere of this boutique winery in the Ramona Valley. In 2017, Travel + Leisure magazine named Vineyard Grant James the #2 winery in the USA by visitor popularity- tall praise indeed! Wine expert Lindsay Pomeroy advises:
“Aesthetically, this beautiful winery combines both rusticity and elegance. The wines are fleshy and juicy palate pleasers. Susanne has a unique approach to her barrel regime focusing on the use of Hungarian oak. Her deft hand brings flavor complexity and length to the long finish of her wines.”
Join Susanne and Jacques Sapier on a voyage of discovery up the Rhine River, traveling from Amsterdam to Basel. Private tastings and events are included for members of the Vineyard Grant James Rhine Group.
