About Tedeschi Family Winery

The Tedeschi family settled in Napa Valley’s Calistoga in 1919, having emigrated from Pisa, Italy.  Eugene, the first born here in Calistoga, acquired the property that currently houses the winery and family home in 1951, where he planted the family’s first grapevines among established fruit trees.  In 1991, Emil, Eugene’s son returned to the family homestead as steward after co-founding one of Hawaii’s most successful wineries: Tedeschi Vineyards – Maui.    The Calistoga winery has become the passion and single focus of Emil’s two sons Emilio and Mario.  “Our passion is centered around making wines our grandparents would be proud of historical varietals, traditionally made, and those which can be enjoyed with a variety of foods and good company, today or from your cellar many years from now.”, says Mario Tedeschi, Vineyard Manager.

Together, with Emilio acting as General Manager and Mario Tedeschi managing all the vineyards, the two brothers are joined by a magnificent team committed to handcrafting old-world style wines from several small and neighboring vineyards. Varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Primitivo, Valdiguié, Viognier, Rosé of Carignane, Barbera, and Sauvignon Blanc.  Each of the vineyards are specially selected, hand-tended, and fermented in open top bins with daily punch-downs before barrel aging. Total annual production is 2,000 cases with 10 different varietals.

This once-in-a-lifetime program combines a 4-night land tour, staying three nights in Lisbon and one night in Porto before our 7-night Douro cruise.  We’ll see the sights of Lisbon, the mountaintop castles of Sintra, miraculous Fatima, the university city of Coimbra, and enjoy a serene night in beautiful Porto.  This is a relaxing and leisurely introduction to Portugal before boarding our 7-night Douro River cruise aboard the luxurious ship AmaDouro.
