Gary & Karen Stewart – Winemakers

In 2008, Gary & Karen Stewart partnered with some dear friends to start Four Brix Winery in Ventura, California. Gary Stewart first learned winemaking in his garage with friends. His weekend hobby turned into a lifetime foray in the wine industry. After taking classes at UC Davis, Gary studied with prominent California wineries, learning that a light touch of the grape will produce the best wines and allow the best expression of terroir. Four Brix produced award-winning wines sourced from some of the best vineyards of Paso Robles, Santa Ynez & Sonoma.

Gary & Karen retired from Four Brix Winery in 2025, to enjoy more travel and focus on Gary’s family business. Over the years, we have toured many countries and brought along our friends on our travels. These journeys abroad provided inspiration for many of the wines Gary made at Four Brix.

Next year, AmaWaterways has asked us to be Ship’s Wine Hosts on a special Celebration of Wine river cruise. The itinerary is called Europe’s Rivers & Castles, a summer wine cruise from Nuremberg Germany to Luxembourg. We will sail along four of Germany’s great rivers: the Danube, Main, Rhine and Mosel.  The villages and ports are picturesque, virtually out of a fairytale and the scenery is spectacular.

Along the way we will enjoy a superb array of hand-selected German and French wines during two tasting lectures and one paired dinner led by Gary Stewart.
