Peter and Katie Mondavi cordially invite you to join them on this ‘Bucket List’ trip to Portugal. This once-in-a-lifetime program combines an optional four-night land tour, staying three nights in Lisbon and one night in Porto before our seven-night Douro cruise. We’ll see the sights of Lisbon, the mountaintop castles of Sintra, miraculous Fatima, and the university city of Coimbra, before enjoying a peaceful night in beautiful Porto. This is a relaxed and leisurely introduction to Portugal before boarding our seven-night Douro River cruise aboard the luxurious ship AmaDouro.
We will be sailing round-trip from Porto through the scenic Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards, historic villages and welcoming wine estates await. Explore the elegant Palácio de Mateus and its gardens, wander the medieval streets of Castelo Rodrigo, and venture into Spain for a guided visit to Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Along the way, savor regional cuisine, traditional quinta dining and wine tastings that bring the region’s distinctive flavors to life. Complete your journey in colorful Porto with historic sightseeing, a Port tasting and an evening cruise past the city’s illuminated waterfront.
After the Douro cruise, there is an optional three-night post-cruise extension north from Porto into Galicia, with its Celtic-influenced heritage, centuries-old seafood traditions, amazing Michelin-starred restaurants, and superb Albariño white wines.
Peter is a third-generation co-proprietor of Napa Valley’s oldest winery, Charles Krug, the iconic family-owned and operated winery based in St. Helena, California. As the grandson of Cesare and Rosa Mondavi, the pioneering visionaries who purchased Charles Krug Winery in 1943, Peter has played a vital role in maintaining and growing the legacy of Napa Valley’s Great Estate.
Peter met his wife Katie at Stanford where they were undergraduates. Katie went on to earn her Medical Degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and served on the clinical faculty of both UCSF and Stanford.
